ABOUT US

Fool's Gold is an art and design studio by artists Rachel Reichert and Alex Gartelmann, based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We create table-based objects, and editions, both through our own studio practice and in collaboration with artists and makers whose work we admire.

Our work sits somewhere between contemporary art, design, and small-scale manufacturing. Using a combination of digital and traditional fabrication techniques, we produce objects in small batches in our Milwaukee studio, while creating opportunities to experiment with other artists across materials, disciplines, and ways of making.

Alongside the objects, Fool's Gold hosts dinners, studio gatherings, and collaborative projects that bring artists, designers, chefs, and curious people around the same table. Collaboration is central to the studio, whether developing an object together, experimenting with a new material or process, or simply creating a reason to gather and exchange ideas.

ABOUT OUR STUDIO

Part artist studio, part gathering space, the Fool’s Gold studio is an active site for material experimentation, production, collaboration, and ongoing exchange. It is the starting place for everything we do.

The studio also creates space to work alongside other artists and makers, bringing different practices, materials, and perspectives into the process. These collaborations might take the form of an edition, an exhibition, a dinner, an experiment, or something we haven’t quite figured out yet.

ABOUT OUR OBJECTS

Each Fool’s Gold object begins as a study in form, material process, and use. Drawing from cherished domestic objects, manufacturing histories, studio craft traditions, and the ways we gather around a table, the work considers how everyday objects carry memory and meaning.

Moving fluidly between drawings, 3D modeling, custom tool-making, casting, fabrication, finishing, and small-batch production, each piece retains evidence of the processes and hands involved in making it.

Produced in small batches in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, these works are intended to live alongside daily life, slowly developing character through use and time.
