The Good Set

The Good Set is a collection of everyday flatware designed and made by Fool’s Gold in Milwaukee, WI. Each three-piece setting includes a fork, spoon, and knife made from silver-plated brass with powder-coated aluminum handles.

Three simple objects that find their way into nearly every day.

We hold them in our hands, bring them to our mouths, set them out for other people, wash them, put them away, lose one every once in a while, and somehow end up with a drawer full of them. Flatware is so ordinary that it can be easy to forget how much time we spend with it.

Forks, spoons, and knives have been hanging around for a very long time. Their shapes have shifted and their materials have changed, but they have remained more or less recognizable. The Good Set starts there, with three familiar objects and the possibility of making them feel a little different.

Designed in Milwaukee and made in small batches, each piece pairs silver-plated brass with a powder-coated aluminum handle. They are finished by hand, one at a time, so each one ends up a little bit different.

The Good Set came from thinking about the table and everything that happens around it. Dinner with friends. Breakfast alone. A meal that stretches late into the night. Takeout eaten straight from the container. The good meals, the everyday meals, and whatever happens to be lingering around.

We wanted to make flatware that could belong to all of it. Something special enough to notice but not so precious that it stays tucked away. Use it every day. Mix it with what you already have. Let the silver change and the handles pick up a few marks along the way.
